Level Cross, NC -- The outpouring of support for Carl Wheeler and his mom who must care for him around the clock continues to spread throughout the Triad.
Last summer a drunk driver plowed into Wheeler and Darren Jones.
Wheeler was helping Jones push a mini-van that had stalled near the interstate.
The crash killed Jones and paralyzed Wheeler.
Saturday night people in Randolph County stepped in to help a man they've never met.
More than 20 Triad area restaurants donated the food so the gospel sing and supper could serve up a good meal at $7 a plate, and try to make the Wheeler's tragic turn of events a little easier to handle.
"Before I die I want to do something that counts in this life, and this is going to be one of them," said Co-Organizer Kaye Hilton.
"I could easily say I'll pray for him, but we need to have feet on those prayers," added Rita Kivett, Co-Organizer.
Saturday night's event raised $1,800.
There's another benefit for Carl Wheeler Sunday in Burlington at the Front Street Public House from 2pm-6pm.
The food and music cost $10.
You can also make donations to the "2 Those Who Care/Wheeler Family" fund at any Triad area BB&T Bank Branch.
