Reidsville, NC -- The first surgery for Reidsville's miracle baby was a success.
On Tuesday, doctors released Jaxx Denny's spinal cord from the skin around it, and placed it back into the spinal canal.
The eight-month-old baby was born without a right kidney, without six ribs on his right side, and a curved spine.
For months, the Denny family has been asking for thoughts and prayers.
After Tuesday's surgery, the doctor told Pete and Tammy Denny that Jaxx was already moving his arms and legs.
This was just the first surgery for Baby Jaxx, but a critical one. The next surgery, the one that will ultimately save his life, is based on the spinal cord surgery.
Jaxx has to lie flat for 48 hours as part of his recovery.
Barring no hold-ups, his next surgery is February 28. That's when doctors will use titanium rods to rebuild his rib cage and straighten his spine. The surgery is called VEPTR.
The surgery will allow Jaxx's lungs room to grow.
Doctors said the VEPTR surgery will be more difficult for Baby Jaxx and take longer to recover.
Pete and Tammy Denny said they are grateful to God and still counting on prayers.
