Kernersville, NC -- Getting things from point A to point B, that's logistics. It may seem simple, but it's big business...and on Wednesday, the Triad's latest logistics hub opened shop.
The FedEx Ground hub held its grand opening celebration in Kernersville.
The distribution center handles small-package ground deliveries. The fedex ground hub employs 550 full and part-time employees and 200 independent contractors.
Kernersville's 410,000 square-foot distribution facility is a $100 million investment and sits on 125 acres of land.
The facility features state-of-the-art material handling systems than can process up to 15,000 packages per hour.
The new FedEx Ground hub is part of a nationwide network expansion to boost daily package volume capacity and further enhance the speed and service capabilities of its network. It is the eleventh hub to open since embarking on the expansion program in 2002. FedEx Ground has also expanded and/or relocated more than 500 local facilities.
The network enhancements have resulted in accelerating ground service delivery by one day or more in more than half of the united states.
