Greensboro, NC-- The funeral for a fallen Greensboro Fire Captain has been set.
The city of Greensboro announced Wednesday, that Captain William Caviness' funeral is Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m., at Christ United Methodist Church. The church is located on Holden Road.
Capt. William Caviness collapsed while running the Chicago Marathon on Sunday and died about two hours later at a hospital.
Caviness was an 8 year veteran with the department and was promoted to Captain in December 2010. He was serving at Station 14 on Summit Ave. He had previously worked for Station 5 on Westover Terrace.
Some of his other work with the department included: being a member of the Honor Guard, Water Rescue Task Force, High angle confined space, Trench Rescue, Land Search and Vehicle Extrication Teams. Caviness was also involved in the VIP program, which teaches teenagers about safe driving and consequences.
Caviness leaves behind a wife and two children. A memorial fund has been setup for the family. Click here to find out where you can make a contribution.
