Thomasville, NC -- Imagine getting ready for your big moment in a competition or presentation, and learning that what you need most for the competition, has disappeared.

That's what happened to a boy in Thomasville, who is set to defend his national in-line skating title.

12 year-old Zach Lloyd has won four national titles. But, his biggest challenge wasn't a skater. Someone stole Lloyd's $1,000 personalized skates out of his backpack on Friday, while he was at Skate South Skating Rink in High Point.

After finding out, Lloyd's dad found a way to get the wheels rolling again, he called a family friend who makes skates as a hobby.

It just happens that the family friend, Carl Atkins, is a former inline skater himself. When he is not working as a construction worker, he makes skates for younger skaters as a hobby.

Atkins rushed and worked for four days straight to build Lloyd's new skates. That project normally takes four weeks.

"It was a little tough there, at one point I said man I'm going to have to pull some long late hours and I did,"said Atkins.

"I think the world of Carl. I just really want to go give him a big hug right now. It means a lot to me, expressed Lloyd.

Lloyd and his family will head to the nationals in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Saturday.

The inline speed skating competition starts on Sunday and will last until next Saturday.
