Newton, NC-- The lead prosecutor in the Zahra Baker murder case has been returned to active status following his arrest for driving while impaired on the North Carolina coast.

Chief Legal Assistant Donald Farr of the Catawba County District Attorney's office said in a statement Thursday that a review of the case indicated the allegations against Eric Ballas didn't require further discipline.

Police in Sunset Beach arrested Bellas last month while he was attending the N.C. District Attorneys' Summer Association Meeting. Bellas was allegedly involved in an accident while riding a bicycle.

He was placed on administrative leave following the incident.

Bellas was the primary prosecutor in the disappearance and death of 10-year-old Zahra Baker. The girl's stepmother, 43-year-old Elisa Baker, is charged with second-degree murder in Zahra's death.
