The head of the confederate statue that stood in downtown Reidsville for more than 100 years before it was knocked down by a driver. June 2011.
Reidsville, NC -- If people in Reidsville think the broken Confederate Soldier Monument is an eye sore, try finding $28,000 to fix it.
Last month, a man drove into the monument downtown and left it in pieces. The statue has been around for more than a hundred years.
Now, there's a debate as to if it should be repaired and who should pay for it. The city received the $28,000 estimate from professional art restorer Ted Monnich.
Reidsville has pursued other options to pay to fix the statue. The city submitted a claim to the driver's insurance company to pay for the cost.
The Daughters of the Confederacy has claimed ownership of the statue and raised money, but those ownership details are still being worked out.
