Greensboro, NC -- Phone calls reporting a bear poured into the Guilford Metro 911 center over the past few days.

A black male bear cub was first spotted at Greensboro's Country Park Saturday afternoon. Later that day, the cub was seen running through different business parking lots like Big Lots, Wendy's, Domino's Pizza, Circle K Gas Station, and Consignment 1 Furniture near Battleground Avenue and New Garden Road. It was last seen was running across the front and backyards in a neighborhood near Cornwallis Avenue and Quail Drive.

According to North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Officers, it's common to see bears wander further away from home this time of year.

"Most often, we'll see them during the spring and early summer months. Within the next month or two, surely this should not be a problem, hopefully, they'll go ahead and move on out," said North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Officer Nathan Green.

The state wildlife office estimates that bears can travel up to 10 miles a day.

If you come across a bear, don't chase him. Stay calm, don't startle him, and walk away slowly.
