Greensboro, NC -- Greensboro police are asking people who spot the black bear in the city to stay away from it and call 911 immediately.
The calls of reported bear sightings started coming in around 5:10 p.m. Saturday and continued into Sunday, according to Greensboro police.
On Sunday morning, police said the bear was spotted in the Battleground Avenue and Holden Road area. Wildlife officers and animal control were contacted and found the bear in a yard on Quail Drive. They allowed the bear to leave heading south from the location.
Police are asking for help from the public. They say not to approach, feed, chase or corner the bear. They are asking homeowners in the area to put any pet food inside and to secure their pets until the bear leaves.
The first reports of the bear sightings came in on Saturday around County Park. More reports came in from motorists and some nearby workers who spotted it near New Garden Road and Battleground Avenue. Additional reports came from Lincoln Greene Apartments, Domino's Pizza, Big Lots and the Circle K gas station.
