Winston-Salem, NC -- Officials at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center said they expect a visit from some hospital oversight agencies in the wake of an attack on a 2-year-old.

The hospital released a statement Wednesday afternoon stating they reported the incident to The Joint Commission, North Carolina's Division of Health Service Regulation and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  They said they also began an intense internal review across its clinical services.

The reviews come after an attack on a 2-year-old patient at Brenner Children's Hospital on March 27.  26-year-old Jacob Minton was arrested and charged with first degree attempted murder.  Police said he is the boyfriend of the child's mother.

Warrants released accused Minton of pinching the two-year-old's nose and covering her mouth to prevent her from breathing. It also accuses Minton of hitting the girl in the head several times and "finger-jabbing" her in the stomach.

In the release from Wake Forest Baptist, hospital officials said that more than 20 Medical Center teams are "looking at policies and procedures to make sure they are aligned with regulatory standards and our own expectations for delivering quality health care."

They said they expect the outside oversight agencies to send representatives to survey the Medical Center.
