Alamance County, NC -- Downed power lines in southern Alamance County knocked out power to thousands Friday morning.
According to Duke Energy's website, about 5,300 residents were without power at 7:30 a.m. The outages dropped to about 1,500 by 8:30 a.m. The map on their website shows most of the outages between Highway 87 and Highway 54.
Jenny Faulker with Alamance-Burlington Schools said some schools were impacted during the outage, but they opened on time. Faulker said Duke Energy told her the power would be restored by 8:30 a.m.
Assistant Superintendent Charles Monroe said power was restored by 10:20 a.m. He said Duke Energy informed him the cause of the outage was due to a transition line blew out in the community's substation.
