Charlotte, NC -- Authorities in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina were involved in two high-speed chases Thursday morning. When they ended, police said they had three suspects in custody their alleged involvement in burglary cases.
The first incident started in east Charlotte around 11:00 a.m. after someone called 911 to report a burglary taking place at a residence on Linda Lake Drive. The caller said one person had broken into a neighbor's home and a silver SUV was parked in the driveway.
When officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrived, they spotted the SUV with two men inside as it pulled out of the neighborhood.
The suspects drove onto southbound I-85 where troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol joined the pursuit. By that time, police had determined the SUV was stolen.
Moments before the chase ended, Trooper Mark Coyle used his highway patrol car to nudge the right rear bumper of the SUV. The cruiser also struck a concrete barrier wall on the right-hand shoulder of the highway before running into a ditch.
Both the driver, Desmond Antonio Robinson, and the passenger, Charles Earl Harvey, were arrested at the scene.
