King, NC -- People filled the room and an overflow crowd stood outside during Monday's King City Council meeting.

They want to see the Christian flag flying once again at the Veterans Memorial at Central Park.

At Monday's meeting, council voted to approve a "Limited Public Forum Approach" for the memorial, which includes developing a policy that will recognize faith traditions at the memorial.

However, it could take up to two months for the city's attorneys to decide how the memorial will function.

The city is working with a group called the Alliance Defense Fund to draft the policy.

Mayor Jack Warren said until the policy is drafted, the flag will have to stay down.

Council voted before the public comment period, which was filled with many emotional speakers.

"We're disappointed in the decision you made but I guess we got to live with it," said one man.

Another speaker said, "We're afraid of the ACLU? Where are the Americans? Is there an American in the room, would you stand up please?"

"I'm ashamed of the decision that's been made," said another.

One woman told council, "You're not representing us. Not a single one of you sat here tonight and represented anyone in this room."
