Asheboro, NC -- Heroes like you stepped up to help feed the hungry in your community.
Two weeks ago, the Christian Outreach Center in Asheboro shut down for several days because it ran out of food. The assistant director says it was the first time in 15 years the center had to close.
After community members found out, people donated enough food to refill the shelves. However, organizers aren't celebrating yet. Assistant Director Debbie Cole says if people don't continue donating, the shelves will be empty again in a couple of weeks.
Cole says they're always in need of kid-friendly food like mac and cheese, spaghetti and sauce and peanut butter and jelly.
The Christian Outreach Center can even take perishable foods as long as they can be frozen.
