Amber Alert Update: 10-Year-Old Girl Still Missing, Stepmom Arrested

Hickory, NC -- A statewide Amber Alert was issued for Zahra Claire Baker of Hickory by The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons.

According to WBTV in Charlotte, Zahra Claire Baker was last seen asleep Saturday morning at her home on 21st Avenue Northwest. She was reported missing Saturday afternoon.

Since then, Hickory police have placed Zahra's stepmother Elisa Baker under arrest for unrelated charges, they say. She is charged with driving with license revoked, larceny by employee, driving with license revoked (unsafe tires), six counts of worthless check and four counts of communicating threats.

Police say Elisa Baker's account of the last few hours has been inconsistent therefore they have not ruled her out as a person of interest.

Police told WBTV that the likelihood that Zahra Baker was abducted by a stranger is low. Although nothing has been ruled out. Police and family said they are still deeply concerned for Zahra Baker's whereabouts. Zahra is hard of hearing, and wears a prosthetic leg.

Description of Zahra:
She is five feet tall and weighs 85 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Baker is described as a white girl, with brown hair and blue eyes. She's about five feet tall and weighs 55 pounds. She was last seen wearing a camouflage Army t-shirt and black knee-length tights. Baker also has a prosthetic left leg.
