Alamance Fallen Heroes Memorial needs to raise $200,000 to start construction.
Alamance County, NC -- You have a chance to be a hero to Alamance County Firefighters as they try to remember other heroes.
The "Alamance County Fallen Heroes Memorial" is raising money to build a memorial to first responders who died in the line of duty. It will honor any firefighter, officer, deputy, or emergency responder who died in the line of duty in Alamance County or who formerly worked in Alamance County and died on the job elsewhere. The memorial will be located at the Alamance County Children's Museum. It will say "Some Gave All While All Gave Some". And they need the public's help raising $200,000 to build it.
Michel Quigley, Deputy Chief, EM Holt Fire Department says, "If every Alamance County resident would give a $1.35 it would fund this project 100%. That's a soft drink, if everybody gave up one drink that one day, it would pay for this."
They're holding several events this weekend. Tonight is Emergency Services Appreciation night at Ace Speedway. People can donate in a boot drive, and purchase raffle tickets to win a recliner, grill, or gas card.
Saturday, the speedway will host a tractor pull with the proceeds benefitting the memorial.
And Sunday, there will be an 80-mile motorcycle ride starting at the Graham Fire Department.
If you can't make this weekend's events, you can donate online, just click here.
