Forsyth County, NC -- Winston-Salem Police say one person is dead and two more were taken to area hospitals following a morning wreck.

Officers say three people were struck by a 3-axle paper truck on Highway 311 North near the interchange with Interstate 40.

Winston-Salem Police Department officers on the scene say one person, 25-year-old Joshua Butler, died on the scene. Two others,  Anthony Leggett and Christian Rufus were injured and taken to area hospitals.

Investigators say the pickup truck Butler was riding in went off the road and got stuck in the mud. Another vehicle, driven by Leggett, also lost control and got stuck in the mud. A tow-truck operated by Christian Rufus was called to the scene to assist.

All of the occupants of the vehicles were out of the car as the tow truck attempted to pull them from the mud. At that time, the paper truck, being driven by Samuel Ling, lost control and ran off the road.

The truck crashed into the two vehicles that were stuck in the mud and also hit Butler, Leggett and Rufus. Butler was pronounced dead on the scene. Leggett was taken to Baptist Hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. Rufus was taken to Forsyth Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Northbound 311 was closed for nearly 5 hours following the accident.
