Asheboro, NC -- The North Carolina Zoo is the largest public zoo in the country thanks to the purchase of hundreds of additional acres in Randolph County.
So what does this mean for you? The zoo plans to set aside 322 acres of forest to provide two miles of hiking trails in what is known as the Selma Trogdon Ward Nature Preserve. But the zoo also benefits in a major way from the new land purchase.
It's exploring the idea of building an Asian exhibit and it will conduct a study this summer to decide whether to build.
The zoo's size is now more than 2,000 acres.
