10-year-old Mekaila Bostic and others filled more than 125 bags for people in Haiti, and another 80 for the homeless.

"This is what Martin Luther King would want us to do," said Mekaila. "Help the people in Haiti right now."

She joined friends and strangers pack kits with the American Friends Service Committee. They filled bags with water purification tablets, tooth paste, soap, and other basic needs.

Lori Fernald Kahamala helped organize the event. "It's really about people coming together, about working together," she said.

Mekaila went through the assembly line with friends at least four times. "We're helping," she said. "We're actually doing a good deed."
