Fayetteville, NC -- A North Carolina agency is reviewing contacts between local social services workers and the family of a dead 5-year-old girl whose mother is accused of prostituting her.
The Fayetteville Observer reported Tuesday that the state's Child Fatality Task Force will review contacts the Cumberland County Social Services Department had with 25-year-old Antoinette Davis and her children.
The local agency said last week releasing information about contacts with the Davis family would jeopardize any potential prosecution.
Police found Davis' body in a wooded area in Lee County last Monday. Arrest warrants say she was raped and strangled the same day she was taken from her mother's mobile home two weeks ago.
Thousands gathered in Fayetteville on Sunday to pay their respects to Shaniya.
Antoinette Davis was charged last week with human trafficking and child abuse by prostitution of her daughter, Shaniya Davis.
Mario McNeill is charged with murder, rape and kidnapping.
