Lexington, NC -- Thanksgiving is less than a week away, but Uptown Lexington is ready for Christmas.

The town held its annual Christmas Open House to welcome the season. Merchants opened up their stores to show off holiday merchandise.

This year, Uptown Lexington Incorporated Executive Director Jo Ellen Edwards says the organization is asking for the community's help to fight theft and vandalism of their lights. "We've told people if they see people taking lights out of the strands to please call the police department so it has really worked to raise the awareness of people about leaving the lightbulbs in the strands of lights."

While parents shopped, kids could write letters to Santa. They also got to visit the holiday Pigs in the City, "Deck the Hogs".

Santa and Mrs. Claus rolled into Lexington, pulled not by reindeer, but by a horse-drawn carriage. Kids had the chance to take pictures with Santa and tell him what they wanted, and even ask a few questions.

While kids lined up to take pictures with Santa, Mrs. Claus read stories to the children and elves shared about life at the North Pole.
