Winston-Salem, N.C.--Wake Forest University senior tight end Ben Wooster is one of 30 tight ends named to the preseason watch list for the 2009 John Mackey Award.

The Mackey Award, given annually to the top collegiate tight end, will be announced in December.

Wooster, a native of Suwanee, Ga. (Greater Atlanta Christian) was Wake's starter at tight end in 2008 when he caught 24 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns. His final catch of the season was an eight-yard scoring pass from Riley Skinner that gave the Deacons their first lead in a 29-19 win over Navy in the EagleBank Bowl.

An Academic All-ACC pick as a junior, Wooster is again expected to be among Wake Forest's top receivers in 2009. He was third on the team in receptions in 2008.

The Mackey Award is handed out by the Nassau County (N.Y.) Sports Commission. The award is named in honor of NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey who is considered to be among the best to have played the tight end position. Missouri's Chase Coffman won the award last year.

Wooster is one of only two ACC tight ends named to the preseason watch list. Virginia Tech's Greg Boone is the other.
