Graham, NC -- Alamance County's new interim tax administrator started work Monday.
Emmett Curl is the retired director of revenue for Wake County, according to Alamance County Manager Craig Honeycutt.
"We felt that we wanted the most qualified to help us during this period, and Mr. Curl's reputation and experience is as good as anyone in the State," Honeycutt said.
He replaces Kim Horton, who resigned as tax administrator last month amid controversy over her handling of the county's recent revaluation.
Curl will work Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday. He will earn $400 daily for a minimum of six hours of work, Honeycutt said.
The county recently hired Joyce and Company, CPA to examine the tax department's internal controls. About $2,000 in cash went missing from the department in December.
