HENRY COUNTY, V.A. -- The Henry County Sheriff's Office says they are warning citizens about a possible phone scam claiming callers will be arrested if they don't pay a certain amount of money.
Deputies tell WFMY News 2 citizens claimed they were being contacted by a person claiming to be Lt. Shephard with the Henry County Detention Center, Police Station, or Police Office. This person then threatens that they have a subpoena claiming someone has missed jury duty and will be arrested if they don't pay a certain amount of money. They have told citizens to meet them at Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart with the money.
Deputies say they want to assure the public from all law enforcement agencies, local, state, and federal, that they do not call and ask for money in lieu of being arrested.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the scam and ask that if anyone has information to contact them at (276) 638-8751 or Crime Stoppers at (276) 632-7463.
