HICKORY, NC -- Hickory Police say they've arrested three people in connection with a jewelry store robbery.
According to WBTV, the robbery occurred early Tuesday at Bisanar Co. Jewelers located at Union Square in Hickory.
Investigators say the suspects broke out the front door to get inside, then smashed displays, and took off with thousands of dollars in jewelry. However the suspects didn't get too far.
According to WBTV, police arrived and spotted a tan Lexus driving away. That's when a chase started but the vehicle crashed and the suspects tried to get away by foot. Police said two of the suspects called a yellow cab and told the driver they wanted to go to Greensboro. Police said a dispatcher had already talked with them and that's when they moved in but the suspects tried to get away again. However police later arrested them.
Police arrested Xavier Alexander Onwuka, 21, of Greensboro, Rashid Sita, 22, of Durham and Justin Williams, 22, of Durham according to WBTV. Police are looking into the possibility of them being connected to a string of similar thefts across the state. There's no word on their charges at this time.
