WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- After police found a man shot in the head, a person of interest led officers on a car chase and is now facing a long list of charges.
According to police, officers responded to a shooting report off Angel Oaks Drive after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday. The victim was found shot in the head and his car (an Acura) was stolen. Officers later spotted the stolen Acura and tried to pull the car over, but the driver failed to stop. The officers chased the stolen vehicle until it was forced to stop on Baux Mountain Road at Opportunity Road. Police say there were no injuries or damage from the car chase.
Police say the man driving the Acura is Patrick Laray Smith. Officers told WFMY News 2 on Thursday Patrick Laray Smith was charged with the following:
- Assault With a Deadly Weapon,with Intent to Kill, Inflicting Serious Injuries
- Larceny of a Motor Vehicle
- Felony-Speeding to Elude Arrest
- Careless and Reckless Driving
- Resist Arrest
- Driving While License Revoked
A $200,000.00 secured bond was set with a First Appearance in court for Smith on December 27.
The victim shot in the head was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He is expected to recover.
