RUFFIN, N.C. -Two homes were broken-into in Ruffin on Wednesday and Rockingham County Sheriff Deputies believe jewelry was the target in both cases.

The crimes happened on Quesinberry and Perkinson Roads - just nine miles apart.

Jeff and Sarah Campbell live in the home burglarized on Perkinson Road and spoke with WFMY News 2's Morgan Hightower on Thursday.

They said when they came home Wednesday night - they found their front door kicked in, their back door wide open, and a jewelry box full of family heirlooms missing.

"The sentimental part is the biggest pain and that is what my wife has been struggling with," explained Jeff Campbell, homeowner.

After kicking open their front door, Jeff says the suspect headed straight for the bedroom.

He says the only items stolen were his wife Sarah's jewelry boxes.

Inside was her mother's wedding ring, Jeff's Marine dog tags, and the dollar bill her father was carrying when he died.

"To the robbers, that dollar may have not meant anything to them, but that dollar meant a lot to me," explained Sarah Campbell.

She added, "They're irreplaceable and I probably won't ever find them."

The crooks left out the back door, ran around the house, and left sheriff deputies foot-prints and tire tracks to follow.

"Even though you are in your home and that is your safe place, you don't feel quite as safe as you once did," said Sarah.

Jeff added, "People used to think they were safer out in the country but that's not so anymore."

The jewelry the thieves stole from Jeff and Sarah's home is valued at a little more than $2,000.

Sheriff's deputies are still sorting out what exactly was taken from the other home in Ruffin.

At this point, no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about these break-ins is asked to call the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office at 336-634-3232 or CrimeStoppers at 336-349-9683.
