Athletes competed in the Special Olympics of North Carolina's bowling tournament in Greensboro. Dec. 8, 2013.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Special Olympics of North Carolina (SONC) held one of three state-level bowling tournaments Sunday in Greensboro.
Two additional tournaments took place in Newton and Durham. More than 900 athletes from across the state trained for about eight weeks before advancing to the tournaments.
SONC anticipated more than 300 athletes from nearby counties would participate in the Greensboro event, but some districts canceled because of the weather.
