  • HIGH POINT, N.C. -- A High Point man pleaded guilty Thursday to Involuntary Manslaughter after he struck and killed his four-year-old stepdaughter who was playing in the drive way in January.

On January 7, 2013, High Point Police said they responded to a house on Asheboro Street after receiving a call about a child who had been hit by a car.

Officers said the victim, four-year-old Tryonna English was hit while playing in the driveway. She was transported to High Point Regional Hospital where she later died.

After their investigation in January, officers moved forward with charges and charged Bovill with Involuntary Manslaughter and Insurance Fraud as a result.

WFMY News 2's Liz Crawford talked to Bovill about the accident. He admitted that he was in a rush and his careless mistake cost his stepdaughter's life.

Police told WFMY that Bovill initially lied about what actually happened, claiming the car popped out of gear. The police investigation determined that Bovill reversed and hit Tryonna. Then by driving forward, he ran over her head, which killed her.

Police also said that had Bovill been honest from the start, there likely would not have been any charges filed.

Bovill was sentenced to 3 years  and 10 weekends in Guilford County Jail and Community Service. He also received a suspended sentence of 16-29 months.
