WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - His talents on the track put racing on the map and turned ordinary people in to die-hard fans.
On Friday, legendary driver Richard Petty was in Winston-Salem trying to do something similar, except the focus wasn't racing. Instead the focus was on feeding the hungry.
Smithfield and Lowes Food donated more than 345-thousand pounds of food which will be distributed between 2nd Harvest Food Bank and 6 other food banks around the state.
It's all part of Smithfield's Hungry Homes tour, a coast-to-coast effort to give families food security.
