WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - One of Winston-Salem State's most loyal fans was especially upset about the attack that resulted in the cancellation of Saturday's game. She had tickets to the game and was planning to attend with family members.
Allean Sims has devoted much of her life to celebrating and supporting her alma mater. She has even earned a nickname, "Mama Ram."
When she heard about the attack, she said, "I got real upset...It just didn't make sense...It was downright bad...I think they were afraid that we were going to win the game, so they had to do something."
Later, Sims added, "Winston-Salem State is better than that. We don't fight back. We'll take it on the chin."
Now, she has a message for the players involved in the attack.
"I just have to pray for them. These are young men. I won't call them boys. These are young men. They should know better," Sims said. "Disregard Virginia and let us play someone else for the championship...Go Rams!"
