GREENSBORO, N.C. -- On Tuesday night, Greensboro City Council will have one of its last two meetings before the new mayor and new councilmembers are sworn in.

The New Members

New members will be sworn in Dec. 3 in council chambers at the Melvin Municipal Building.

During the Nov. 5 municipal elections, Nancy Vaughan beat incumbent Robbie Perkins in the Mayoral race.

Soon-to-be city council members include Mike Barber, who has been on the council before; Sharon Hightower, who unseated District 1 incumbent Diane Bellamy-Small; and Jamal Fox who unseated District 2 incumbent Jim Kee.

Renaming A Road

Tuesday's meeting will include a public hearing for the renaming of parts of east and west Lee Street and High Point Road. City officials would like to change the name to east and west Gate City Boulevard.

Buy Local

Also, city leaders will proclaim Nov. 15 through Dec. 31 as "Buy Local Season" to encourage taxpayers to buy local goods and gifts from local merchants.
