RALEIGH, N.C. -- A Raleigh woman who led an animal rescue operation has been charged with cruelty after officials found more than 90 animals at her home.

Wake County officials found 90 cats and three dogs at the home of 44-year-old Carol Jean De Olloqui's home Saturday night.

Officials with the Wake County Animal Shelter said conditions at the home were unfit for the cats and dogs.

De Olloqui is former president of Calvin's Paws, an animal rescue operation that coordinates animal adoption. De Olloqui is charged with three charges of animal cruelty. It was unclear if she has a lawyer.

Wake shelter director Jennifer Federico said they were able to save about 30 cats, but 60 of them had to be euthanized.

The animals have been removed from the home.
