Philippines -- The American Red Cross has announced that they have deployed two disaster relief specialists and equipment to the hardest hit communities in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines Friday.

The Red Cross has also activated its family tracing service to help find missing family members by using two telecommunication specialists and a satellite system in the coming days.

The Red Cross wants to remind people that phone lines are down and urges those that are unable to reach loved ones to contact your local chapter of the Red Cross to initiate a family tracing case. The American Red Cross is in close contact with the Philippine Red Cross to help find those that are unaccounted for.

Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the Philippines Friday with strong winds over 145 miles per hour sustained. The Philippine Red Cross is reporting significant damage and a growing death toll, with more devastation yet to be reported. The storm affected 4.3 million people across 36 provinces and 1,200 evacuation centers are housing more than 330,000 left homeless by the storm.

The Philippine Red Cross is providing assistance in the hardest hit communities, which includes search and rescue efforts and distribution of food and relief supplies to survivors.
