RF Micro Devices Laying Off 20 At Greensboro Facility

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Greensboro-based RF Micro Devices (RFMD) announced Wednesday it is reducing its workforce at its Greensboro facility.

Brent Dietz, director of corporate communications, confirmed the information Wednesday to WFMY News 2.

According to a statement on behalf of RFMD, the layoffs are a continuation of staff reductions that started in July.

"This week RFMD concluded workforce reductions within its manufacturing operations in Greensboro that were first initiated in July. Approximately 20 employees will be affected by this week's actions, with some being offered other positions within the company."

In July WFMY reported that RFMD laid off 120 employees. Those layoffs were also at the Greensboro site.

The company employees 4,000 people worldwide.

RFMD was founded in 1991. The company designs and manufactures semiconductor components used for mobile devices, wireless infrastructures and Aerospace and Defense markets. They have manufacturing plants in Beijing, China; Brooksville, Fla.; Broomfield, Colo.; Greensboro, N.C.; Newton Aycliffe, UK; and Nuremberg, Germany.
