GASTONIA, N.C. -- Authorities say a man and woman from Gaston County are accused of stopping traffic on Interstate 85 so they could drag race, one of them with a young child in the car.
Gastonia police charged 25-year-old Jeremy Shane Huffman of Bessemer City with speeding while going more than 15 mph over the speed limit or in excess of 80 mph, participating in a prearranged speed competition, reckless driving and child abuse.
Police also said 26-year-old Tricia Marie Walker of Gastonia faces speeding and speed competition charges.
The N.C. Highway Patrol said Huffman and Walker stopped traffic on I-85 Saturday night and impeded traffic by driving at a slow speed. They then raced to an exit off the interstate.
The patrol said there was a 4-year-old boy in Huffman's car.
