WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Officers fatally shot two men and wounded a third following a robbery at a Pizza Hut in Wilmington.
The Star-News reports that 18-year-old Ronald Roland and 20-year-old Tevin Robinson were pronounced dead at a hospital early Saturday. Twenty-year-old Jalani Smith was treated for his injury and faces charges of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and kidnapping. He is set to appear in court Monday.
Wilmington police spokeswoman Linda Rawley says officers met the suspects as they left the restaurant around midnight Friday. She says gunfire was exchanged after they refused to obey police commands. No officer was injured. She declined to say how many officers were involved. All are on administrative leave with pay.
Rawley says officers have been monitoring businesses following a recent spike in armed robberies.
