RALEIGH, N.C. -- Officials in Raleigh held a news conference Friday morning about an accident Thursday night that injured five people at the N.C. State Fair.

WRAL-TV reports, the switch on the Vortex ride needed repairs three days earlier.

The names of the people have not been released, but officials said Friday that the people injured range from 14 to 39 years old. Two of the people injured were treated and released from WakeMed. Officials did not describe the conditions of the other three people.

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison says they are still talking with witnesses to determine what caused the accident; it could be days before they are finished.

Tom Chambers, the head of the state Department of Labor division that inspects the rides at the fair, says a switch that locks riders in their seats failed Monday. They closed the ride and replaced the switch. The ride reopened when it appeared to be working fine.

Chambers said it is too early in their investigation to tell if the same issue caused Thursday night's accident, according to WRAL.
