GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Honda Aircraft Company celebrated the opening of its new customer service facility in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday.
The company hosted the ceremony at its world headquarters in Greensboro. With the addition, the Honda Aircraft campus now totals more than 130 acres and 600,00 sq. ft.
For Honda Aircraft executives, the decision to expand in Greensboro was easy.
"Greensboro is the exact center of the business market," said President and CEO of Honda Aircraft Company Michimasa Fujino. He referenced the fact that the company does most of its business in North America and Europe, making the East Coast a central location. "So, this is very important and also critical location for us."
Greensboro Mayor Robbie Perkins says the addition of the customer service facility will go a long way toward helping Greensboro and the surrounding areas develop.
"Having [Honda Aircraft Company] here draws international attention to - not only Greensboro - but the whole Piedmont Triad," said Perkins. "This is where we're going to get the jobs of today and the future."
Greensboro mayoral candidate Nancy Vaughn was also at the ceremony and had this to say:
"I think it's great that we have a world-class facility here in Greensboro and Guilford County," she said. "I think this is a catalyst for other companies to relocate
The new customer service facility will be the corporate base for the company's customer service organization. Services will include warranty administration; service programs sales and administration; 24/7 technical support; training; along with a host of other services.
Construction of the 90,000 sq. ft. facility began in September 2012.
