BURLINGTON, N.C. -- City maintenance crews in Burlington are working on a major water main break that happened Wednesday morning.
The break was reported around 11:45 a.m. in the 1500 block of East Webb Avenue. The area has been closed and a detour is set up.
Thursday morning this update about the closure was released:
Three lanes will remain closed near Williamson Street in both directions. The outside North bound lane is open for North bound traffic only. The remaining closed lanes are not expected to reopen until early afternoon, Thursday October 17th, 2013.
NCDOT recommends that motorists traveling in the area wishing to avoid delays may wish to take the following alternate route:
Northbound NC-87 traffic should take a left onto Harden St, NC-49 and then follow that to Maple Avenue NC-100. Continue on Maple Avenue turning right onto Anthony Street. From Anthony Street, motorists can re-access Webb Avenue, NC-87.
Southbound NC 87 traffic should take a right onto Anthony Street then left onto Maple Avenue NC-100. Continue on Maple Avenue turning Left onto Harden Street. From Harden, motorists can access NC-87.
Motorists are advised to use extreme caution in the area.
