THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a house fire Monday morning in Thomasville.
The fire happened in the 400 block of Rich Hilton Road. Davidson County Communications says a neighbor reported the fire shortly after 6 a.m.
Firefighters said an 80-year-old woman was dead when they arrived at the burning home. Her son identified her as Betty Lou Beck Hilton. A passerby rescued Hilton's 60-year-old daughter-in-law, Debbie Hilton. She was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment.
Davidson County Sheriff David Grice told WFMY News 2, "There's no indication at this time that [the fire] was intentionally set."
Family members say Debbie Hilton normally spends day with Betty Lou Beck Hilton. Betty Lou had polio and used a walker to get around.
Investigators say an electrical malfunction caused the fire.
