GREENSBORO, N.C.-- Emergency responders are investigating an accident that happened on I-40 eastbound at Highway 68 ramp around 11:22 a.m. Thursday.
Because of the accident, Police issued a traffic warning that three lanes of travel are blocked and the NC Highway 68 ramp is closed.
A little after 8:30 p.m. all lanes re-opened according to Greensboro Police.
Investigators said the collision happened after Gregory Owen, who was driving a pickup truck, lost control of his vehicle while merging onto I40 eastbound from the Highway 68 ramp, and collided with an oncoming Tractor-Trailer.
The tractor-trailer overturned on the Interstate at the Highway 68 bridge. The driver of the semi was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
Owen was not injured in the crash and police have charged him with Exceeding a Safe Speed for Road Conditions.
The semi trailer was loaded with cigarettes.
Crews with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration are investigating the crash.
