GREENSBORO -- The City is making a splash this week as the USA Olympic Diving Committee toured the Greensboro Coliseum as a potential site to host the 2016 U.S. Team Trials.
Greensboro is one of six cities in the running to host the trials. The trials will determine the divers who will represent the United States on the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team in Rio de Janeiro.
USA Diving's CEO Linda Paul told WFMY News 2 that Greensboro has a "can-do spirit." Paul also said that she felt the city had demonstrated that it would not just put on an event, but exceed expectations as well.
"I just think that Greensboro is a great community," said Paul. "You've put together a fabulous bid and I think you've done everything in your power to make it hard to say no."
The diving committee ended their tour with a lunch and a program with Mayor Robbie Perkins, Tournament Host Committee Chairman Richard Beard and Coliseum Managing Director Matt Brown.
The committee hopes to have a list of finalists by Oct. 10. A final decision is expected Dec. 10.
