HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The High Point Market Authority released the results from an economic impact study on the bi-annual market.

The study, released Wednesday morning, says the High Point Market employs 37,616 people and makes about $198 million in local and state taxes and fees.

Duke University oversaw the study. They analyzed visitor spending within a 75-mile radius of High Point, the HPMA's spending, vendor spending, furniture sales and rental expenses from vendors to local businesses.

All of these factors contributed to the Market's $5.39-billion output, according to the study.

HPMA says 11,000 jobs - of all the jobs created - were in the hospitality, construction and transit industries. Approximately 26,000 jobs are in furniture manufacturing within a 30-county radius of Guilford County, and resulted from furniture sales generated at the Market.

The study noted Guilford County and the city of High Point received about $25.5 million of the $198-million revenue.

Visitor data, provided by HPMA, estimates 58,000 of 76,000 visitors attending the market travel from more than 75 miles away.

The fall market is Oct. 19-24. Visit the High Point Market's website for more information.
