DURHAM, N.C. -- Google Glass is coming to Durham, its first stop on a nationwide tour.

Google Glass is a hands-free computer device worn on your face like a pair of eyeglasses. Google's innovation allows users to access the Internet - with the ability to do voice searches, video calls and use maps - while wearing the titanium frames.

The event is scheduled for Friday, at Bay 7 on the American Tobacco Campus from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

This appearance will be Glass' first public event.

An invitation shared through Google Glass' Google Plus account says, "We've heard lots of people are interested in experiencing Glass first hand, so we're taking Glass to cities across the US to give you a chance to do just that. We're excited to announce that we'll be kicking off in the Tar Heel State. Come try Glass, chat with the team, and enjoy local snacks and beverages."

Starting in May, Google selected 10,000 people across the country to try Glass before it is released; 40 of them live in North Carolina, according to a media invite to the event.

Anyone interested in attending the event will need to RSVP on the event's website.

Additional tour dates and venues have not yet been released.
