ASHEVILLE - A former Henderson County charter school
teacher who made a video of an 11-year-old girl engaged in sexually
explicit activity and shared it was sentenced Wednesday to 18 years in
Deborah Lee Tipton, 45, pleaded guilty early in U.S. District Court to child pornography charges.
Martin Reidinger also sentenced the man Tipton sent to the video to,
Chadwick Hamby, to a little over four years in prison.
her arrest in February 2012, Tipton was fired from her job as a
special-education teacher at The Mountain Community School. She had
worked at the charter school since 2005.
Deputies said the crimes didn't take place on school property, and investigators don't believe there are additional victims.
Hamby, the school's former principal, pleaded guilty in August 2012 to a child pornography charge. He hasn't been sentenced.
A warrant alleged that Hamby "asked for, received and viewed two video recordings" of a child exposing her genitalia.
Authorities said Hamby received the images of the girl from Tipton.
said he was principal at the school for 12 years before leaving in June
2011. Hamby was hired as assistant principal and athletic director at
Brevard High School. He quit that job about the time he was arrested.
