Greensboro, NC-- Police in Greensboro said a call about a foul smell lead to the discovery of a body near downtown Monday night.
A patrol officer investigating the smell found the body around 6:00 p.m. in a wooded area in the 900 block of S. Elm Street, near Union Cemetery.
Tuesday afternoon police said the body has been identified as 68 year-old Thomas Edward Cole. Police said they used Cole's fingerprints to make the identification.
The NC Medical Examiner's Office said Cole died of natural causes.
Police said the area where Cole's body was found is often used as an encampment by homeless persons.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
