WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- One motorcyclist is dead and another is injured after a wreck on U.S. 421 N. Thursday evening.
Witnesses told police traffic was moving slowly through the area of Hastings Hill Road because of light from the low-setting sun and a construction zone.
Investigators said Wanda Sue Harrell crashed her motorcycle into the back of a vehicle. Police said this caused Harrell to lose control and hit Melissa Gibson Thompson, who was also riding a motorcycle.
Harrell was ejected from the bike and died at the location of the accident from injuries, according to the police department. Thompson was injured and was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment. Police say her injuries were serious. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Harrell was 54 years old and lived in Kernersville.
