Burlington, NC - The largest food bank in Alamance County is closing at the end of September, according to the United Way of Alamance County.
A notice was posted to the front door of Loaves and Fishes Christian Food Ministry that said they were no longer distributing food.
When volunteers and people looking for donations showed up Thursday morning, they were shocked to find the organization closed.

The windows are covered with newspaper and News 2's efforts to reach the organization's executive director were unsuccessful.
In our search, we found tax documents and financial information for the organization.
Loaves and Fishes Christian Food, Inc. reported in their most recent Form 990 to have paid their President and CEO, Brenda Allen, $80,938 in reportable income. Her husband, the organization's treasurer, was paid $53,987.
WFMY News 2's Morgan Hightower compared Allen's salary to leaders of other non-profits in the Triad.
In their Form 990 filed for the year 2011, The United Way of Forsyth County reported paying their president and CEO $73,434. That was listed as reportable compensation from the organization. The CEO is reported as receiving an additional $10,919 as an estimated amount of other compensation from the organization and related organizations. That brings their salary to $84,353.
From July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012, the United Way of Alamance County reported paying their president $30,953.00. That figure only accounts for the five months Ronnie Wall was employed during that time. His most recent salary is not available in public documents, but his actually salary is estimated to be more than $70,000.
The United Way of Greater High Point reported paying their President $108,105 in reportable compensation. In estimated compensation from the organization and related organizations, the president was paid $15,172. This information is according to the Form 990 the organization filed for the tax period from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012.
Greensboro Urban Ministry reported paying their executive director $86,570 in their Form 990 from 2011.
According to the organization Charity Navigator, the median salary for charity CEOs in the South in 2010 was $118,636. For CEOs of small charities in the South that same year, the average salary was $89,000. For a medium charity, the average was $130,511 and the median salary for a large charity was $234,960.
The organization also listed $88,021 as the 2010 median salary for CEOs working with Religious organizations. The median salary for CEOs of organizations that serve the public benefit was $151,197.
