BURLINGTON, N.C. -- The passenger of a vehicle involved in a three-car wreck in Burlington was airlifted to UNC Hospital after sustaining a head injury.

Police said Derrick Snipes ran a red light at the intersection of North Church Street and Graham Hopedale Road around 8 p.m. Tuesday. He hit the driver of a Toyota who was making a left turn from the opposite direction. Witnesses told police the Toyota had a green left-turn arrow.

The collision caused the Toyota to hit another vehicle who was waiting for the light to change on Graham Hopedale Road.

The driver and passenger of the Toyota were the only people injured. The driver, Shirley Crawford, was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center for treatment. The passenger, Barry Cole Jr., was airlifted to UNC Hospital; his condition is unknown.

Snipes was charged with Failing to Stop for a Red Light.
